Stage 1
After the above processes of understanding, knowing your requirements and planning the RwH, you can start your construction of the intended rainwater harvesting scheme suitable for your requirement and location. The following steps are recommended in order for you to have smooth flow of constructing the RwH;
1. Draw or sketch your RwH scheme to include the following details;
a. The route in related to the building and/or fixtures at the location
b. The detail of selected type and sizes of ;
i. Storage tank
ii. Piping
iii. Support
c. The measurement details of each of the above to includes;
i. diameter
ii. length
iii. width
d. Close-up details for the above;
i. Bend
ii. Joint
iii. Outlet
iv. Support
2. Identified method of construction whether to do it on your own (DIY) or to employ handyman
3. Make a list of material to be purchased to includes the followings as illustrated in appendix 1 (type, size, number and budget price);
a. Storage tank
b. Supports for tank
c. Pipe
d. Support for pipe
e. Fittings and Outlet (stop cocks, elbow, reducer, tee) refer to list of fittings in appendix 2
f. Tools if you decided as DIY (wrench, spanner, saw and clamp)
g. Consumables ( glue, tape, sealing gel )
4. Make the purchases at the identified hardware store in accordance to the prepared list. Always budget at least 10% for wastages during purchases to avoid shortage during construction.
5. Store the purchased materials in safe place in accordance to type (tank, pipe, fitting and consumable)
6. Prepare the selected places the location such as;
a. clear hurdles or obstruction,
b. Levelling the base for storage tank
c. Fixing necessary support
