Half of our daily solid waste are food

Malaysia is facing serious solid waste managment issue. Too little of the daily generated solid waste are currently being diverted from landfill, through either recycling, incineration or other modes of disposal. About 98% of the daily solid waste end up at landfill.

The options to reduce should take food waste into consideration because 50% of our solid watse are food base. One simple option that has been ignored are composting, if we can compost 50% of the food waste effectively we have reduce 25% of total solid waste. If our total daily waste is 30 tons in Klang Valley, reducing 25% means a reduction of  225 tons monthly and cummulatively 2700 tons annunaly in Klang Valley alone. This effectively will increase landfill lifetime by 25% easily.

Composting is simple and can be done by anyone the only missing 'link' is a good program that will encourage optimium participation from the kitcheners nationwide. Stay tune to get involve and contribute and earns from it.... till next time....
